How to Find Tenders for Construction Services on merx

Construction is one of the top industries where you can find public and private sector contracts all year round. Billions of dollars are spent each year on a wide range of goods and services that your business may provide, giving you ample opportunity to start bidding on government tenders in your area. With merx, not only can you find thousands of open tenders for construction services in the public sector to bid on, but also in the private sector by utilizing the merx Private Construction portal. Whichever sector you do business in, you can easily find and manage open construction tenders with merx.

Government Spending in the Construction Industry

The government posts tenders for a variety of different construction services such as infrastructure maintenance, road and bridge repairs, building offices, hospitals, schools, and other structures, upgrades to broadband, public transit, and water infrastructure, and so much more. Over the next few years spending on new construction projects is expected to increase. According to a study done by Statista, construction spending was forecasted at $320.4 billion in 2021, $323.8 billion for 2022, and $333.8 billion for 2023.  Also, looking specifically at building construction, including the residential and non-residential sectors, overall spending hit a record high of $218.2 billion in 2021 up 19.3%.[i]

Along with the federal government spending billions in this industry, so does provincial and territorial governments. For example, in Alberta, the government's three-year plan stated in 2021 an investment close to $21 billion to be spent on construction projects. Some of the funds will be broken up into the following categories:

  • $2.4 billion for roads and bridges
  • $2.2 billion for health facilities
  • $1.6 billion for school projects
  • $191 million for post-secondary and higher education infrastructure

Another example includes New Brunswick, planning to spend $746 million in their 2022-2023 budget that will span over 5 years including projects like highway, road, and bridge maintenance, health care infrastructure, and education infrastructure.[ii] These are just a couple examples of funding going toward the construction industry, but you can find government tenders being issued across Canada in every province.

Infrastructure Spending

In addition to the billions of dollars spent by the government on construction services each year, the Government of Canada also passed the Investing in Canada Plan in 2016 investing over $180 billion on infrastructure projects to be spread equally across various sectors over the next twelve years. Many provinces and territories throughout Canada have also joined in on infrastructure investments, including Ontario which announced in their 2021 budget plans to invest $145 billion into infrastructure projects over the next ten years.[iii]
