Description

The JAMES Wastewater Treatment Plant (the Plant) relies on two trickling filters (TF) to provide secondary treatment of wastewater. Cells 3 and 4 of TF #1 contain the original media from 1989 which has exceeded its expected service life. The media in Cell #3 is scheduled for replacement in 2020. As part of the media replacement project, a condition assessment of the concrete structure, wall panels and internal masonry walls will be performed. The timeline for this project is limited by a few key factors that must be managed to ensure success of the project.

The project will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 involves the procurement of the filter media under a supply contract. Phase 2 involves removing the existing media, performing a condition assessment of the cell structure and components, completing any necessary repairs and installing the new media. The City intends to procure the removal, replacement and repair services under a single construction contract.
